Community comes together to support a local family in need.

This weekend sees the culmination of hard work and support from a number of local friends, who are working together to create fundraising events for a local girl and her family. Four year old Halle from Keir had been diagnosed with Leukaemia on her first day at school back in August, and is currently undergoing treatment in Glasgow and will continue to do so for a long time. Kind hearted friends of the family who live in Penpont, Keir and Thornhill came together to help support them, and as part of their fundraising efforts have organised a double bingo event this weekend, one to be held in Penpont and another to be held in Thornhill. Those helping to create these events include Nicola Stitt, Gemma Davies, Nikki Bruce, Sarah Mayers, Jen Marchbank, with Robbie Logan and Ian Tunaley providing the entertainment.
Raffle tickets are available to purchase at both events as well as in areas around the community, including Penpont Village Shop, the Three Villages Cafe and via local social media too. A total of over 130 donated raffle prizes are available to win plus a huge Tombola of 140 items up for grabs!
A silent auction is also being held for a beautiful chair (as shown in the image above), hand carved by Phillip Wilson of Tools and Timbers, Tynron. The chair is made from oak from Penpont Sawmill before it closed down and is currently located in Rooks Gallery, Penpont, for anyone wishing to view it. Bids for the chair can be placed by visiting Sarah’s Facebook page and private messaging your bids. The highest bidder will be announced on the 22nd October. Please be aware if your bid wins, you are obliged to pay that amount for the chair.
Keir resident Linda Hay has also painted special stones which can be bought from the Three Villages Cafe, and the Penpont Village Shop, to help the cause.
